OVERTON PHOTOGRAPHIC CLUB NEWSLETTER
No.4 August 2009

All set for the New Season
Our new season is fast approaching, starting on Friday 4th September. As in recent years, we will
have a not-too-serious competition, so bring along some ‘Fun’, ‘Unusual’, etc pictures, or something
interesting that you have been working on or experimenting with, taken in the last 12 months. The winner
will be judged by the club members.
For the new season, we are now ready to fully embrace the digital projection age, (Slides are no longer
acceptable for Southern Federation etc competitions) thanks to our Lottery grant. Over the summer much
has gone on in acquiring a new projector and computer, and we have a motorised projection screen fitted to
the ceiling. Our storage cupboard has been refitted and upgraded to be more secure. A big thanks is due to
all who helped out with this….a lot of work!!!
Our second week will be a “Back to Basics” workshop concentrating on “Close-up” photography (which is the
theme for one of our competitions later in the season). We’ll have examples of suitable equipment and talk
about the practical and technical aspects. What we’d also like is for members to take along some close-up
photos (good or bad) and tell us briefly how they were taken… we can all learn from each other. The more
participation the better, so I hope we have a good response to this.

DSLR User magazine, Battle of the Clubs
After the People/Portraits round ( we scored 30 points) we have held our 40th position in the league table, now
with the same points as Southampton! Having started at 59th, this is good progress. A reminder that we now need
some images of “Macro” for the next round. Could you please email these ( maximum of three) to me at hodgeriba@aol.com by
the end of Sunday 30th August so as to give time for the images to be voted on by members to select the three for our
entry. Please use .jpg files, sized to around 800 x 600 pixels. The theme for the following month is “Photoshop”, so
be prepared! Following this, the other themes coming up during the early part of next season are “Abstract” and
finally “Architecture”

Micheldever Fete:
This is now fast approaching, and I’m pleased to say we already have several sets of entries in hand for the
exhibition at this fete on August Bank Holiday Saturday, 29th; we will be able to show about 60 pictures. We
can take a maximum of 6 images per member entering. Contact our Secretary Jo for details, or you can drop off
entries ( by middle of August if possible) to Dave Tanner in Oakley or John Hodge in Overton.

Overton Scarecrow Festival
We look forward to welcoming the winner, Sheila Puzey, to the club in the new season.

International Garden Photographer of the Year , deadline November 30th. Have a look at the web-site on www.igpoty.com …
the winners of the last competition have just been announced, and you’ll see that the standard of some is not
beyond the reach of our members, so why not have a go?
