No.1/2010 Jan/Feb 2010 Well, the snow has gone (for now anyway!), having caused us some disruption.. let’s hope lots of you managed to take the opportunity to get some good snow photos. We’ve managed to rearrange the cancelled club evening for the Modified Digital Image and this proved to be an entertaining event… thanks to all the contributors, and especially to Ian for his amazing AV of his macro droplets shots ! However we still have to have the rearranged SPF Round, and along with a few other date changes / notifications, please note the following for your diary: • SPF League at Burghfield: will now be held on 25th Feb, 7.45 for 8.00 • SPF Finals Day will be held at St. Mary’s Hall, Overton as last year, on Sunday 18th April • Annual Dinner: date rearranged to 21st May. This means we will fit in something new on 14th May. Reminders for our two events coming up which will be open to the public: Saturday, 20th February, 10.00 to 12.30 at St Mary’s Hall: Community Digital Photography Clinic. We’d like as much support as possible from members for this, the purpose of which is to share our knowledge and advice on Digital Photography with the general public who may be totally baffled by what it is all about, or may just have some specific questions to be answered. It is a completely experimental idea, so we have no feel for how popular it might be. I would hope that people will bring their cameras with them and be willing to show them to others who might like to “test-drive” them. Apart from anyone involved in the technical aspects, we’ll also need some folk to look after teas and coffees. Friday 5th March is our regular meeting, but is being held at St Mary’s Hall and open to the public. There will be a £3 charge for visitors, but not for our members. The speaker, John Chamberlin, is a member of the Arena group of photographers and if you have a look at their web-site, www.arenaphotographers.com you’ll see some fantastic pictures in his gallery. It should be a brilliant evening. Upcoming club entry dates • Art Club Battle: We will have 20 entries, so members are asked to submit a maximum of two prints, to be taken in on 5th February. The Art Club have nominated the judge this year, a much respected local artist Gill Smith. • 3 of a Kind: Your PDI entries for this again need to be submitted by 5th February. • At the end of Feb, your PDIs for round 4 of our club competition need to be submitted by 26th Feb. • And as advance warning, we will be looking for prints to enter in the SPF Print Championships in a few weeks, so think about what you might like to submit for consideration for the club’s entry, details to follow. Talk by Andy Rouse Sue Teagle has information about a talk by Andy Rouse ( major natural history photographer ) in Southampton on 21st March… speak to Sue if you want to get hold of an early ticket…it’s bound to be a sell-out. Exhibitions & External Competitions DSLR User Battle of the Clubs: This has now finished… in the final round we scored 34 points, finishing in 39th position with a total 310 from 10 rounds. Many thanks to all who supported this… there was certainly enough interest to do it again. Winchester Photographic Society’s Annual Exhibition is now open for entries (final date 16th March) details on Winchester Photographoc Society Details of Hayling Island’s Exhibition are on the club notice-board Also the Overton Biodiversity Society is running a photographic competition, details on the Notice Board. That’s it for now! Our Web-Site : Please can you continue to send new pictures for the web-site? It is important that this is kept fresh, so we need to be regularly changing the displays. Email them to Phil Hawkes. Don’t forget to resize for the web; images of about 800 x 600 are big enough, and can be saved as a .jpg file with a quality setting of around 7 John Chairman    April Newsletter   May Newsletter  July Newsletter   August Newsletter  November Newsletter |
