Overton Photographic Club was founded in 1977 by a group of enthusiasts in Overton village, three of whom are still active members. We originally met in the Community Centre but following an increase in rent had to find alternative accommodation. This was found in the St. John's Ambulance Station, Kingsclere Road where we stayed for 3/4 years making it more comfortable by a spot of decorating and covering the floor with felt after it had served its useful purpose at the local mill. Efforts were made during this time to find accommodation within the Recreation Centre and eventually a slot was found for us in the Scout Hut on Town Meadow. After a few seasons in the Scout Hut a vacancy occurred in the Recreation Centre in Bridge Street where our meetings are now held during the winter months.

Meetings take place each Friday evening, with the exception of statutory holidays, from September through to the following May, 7.30 pm for 7.45 pm start.


Some examples of our Members work

The club is a member, and has been for several years, of the Southern Photographic Federation who in turn are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. Meetings include practical evenings where discussion and advice is given on handling cameras, practical lighting, film etc. Speakers both professional and advanced workers from the South of England also give lectures covering all aspects of photography including the basic use of film and darkroom printing, which is rapidly being overtaken by digital photography. Digital photography is also included in the programme covering the use of digital cameras and computer manipulation of your digital photographs conversion of standard film negatives and slides into digital form are also covered, Travelogues from around the world are covered usually in slide or digital projection We currently have approximately 30 members using both chemical and digital photography.

Meetings are held in a very friendly atmosphere and new members are welcome at whatever level of photography you have reached or wish to aspire to. We currently have both beginners and professionals at our meetings, and many in between.
